Happy Hampshire Day

Today is a chance to celebrate everything that makes Hampshire special – not just its beautiful countryside and historic places, but the communities that have shaped its story.

Here in Chandler’s Ford, we’re proud to be part of that history. Our local area has connections to the preparations for D-Day, welcomed Polish refugees in the years following the Second World War, and even has a lesser-known story of Basque child refugees finding safety at Velmore.

These stories remind us that Hampshire’s history isn’t only about places and events. It’s also about people, compassion and communities opening their doors when they were needed most.

As we celebrate Hampshire Day, it’s worth remembering that the strength of our county has always been found in its people.
