Pennine Way Recreation Ground
Pennine Way Recreation Ground – A Green Space for Play and Connection
Pennine Way Recreation Ground is a valued local park, tucked within a well-connected residential area and offering a safe, welcoming space for children and families to enjoy.
The site features two securely fenced play areas, each designed to suit different age groups, ensuring a fun and safe experience for all. Nearby, you’ll find a basketball hoop and a football goal, encouraging active play and outdoor exercise.
A path network runs around the edge of the recreation ground, making it ideal for walking, cycling, or scooting, and linking the space with nearby neighbourhoods including Pennine Way, Oakmount Avenue, and Stourvale Gardens.
Along the railway bank, you’ll also find a stretch of wildflowers, which bring seasonal colour and biodiversity to this often-shaded part of the ground—a small haven for pollinators and a lovely spot for nature lovers.
Drainage Works - Due to Commence 14 July 2025
The Parish Council is pleased to announce upcoming improvement works at Pennine Way Recreation Ground, aimed at addressing long-standing drainage issues and enhancing the space for the benefit of the whole community.
This area has historically experienced flooding — an issue that predates the Parish Council’s acquisition of the site from Eastleigh Borough Council in 2012. Unfortunately, the situation has worsened in recent years, affecting both the usability and condition of the ground.
In response, the Parish Council commissioned extensive investigation works throughout 2024, which have now led to a carefully designed drainage solution - Drainage Specification
We are pleased to confirm that local contractor AR Banks has been appointed to carry out the works, which are due to begin on Monday 14 July 2025. The project is expected to last approximately two weeks, with work taking place Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 5:00pm.
To ensure public safety and efficient delivery of the project:
-
Some areas of the recreation ground will be temporarily fenced off and inaccessible during the works.
-
An equipment compound will be established on site.
We understand that these works may cause some short-term inconvenience and appreciate your patience and support as we work to create a more resilient and enjoyable space for everyone.
If you have any questions or concerns during the project, please don’t hesitate to contact the Parish Council Office on 023 8026 6612 or via email at clerk@chandlersford-pc.gov.uk.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
