Wildflower Meadows

Featured last summer on BBC South, the wildflower beds are being prepared ready for the new season.  Seeding will take place at Hiltingbury, Fryern and Pennine Way recreation grounds, with the hope that our wildflower beds will bring again an ever changing splash of colour to our open spaces.

The objective of the wildflower beds is more than simple aesthetics, though we can all agree they are beautiful.  It's about enhancing biodiversity, supporting the community's well-being and providing an opportunity for education.  We want to thank you for your continued support maintaining these wildflower beds and protecting them for everyone's enjoyment.

If you would like to download the list of seeds sown for 2026 please click HERE.

We must provide a disclaimer though as plants are a living entity and are dependent upon many things.  Whilst all care and attention can be given to the preparation of the soil each year, we cannot guarantee that you will spot every variety listed.  The wildflower beds are prepared, sown and then left to grow.  The beds are not weeded or treated whilst they are flowering.

Equally, you might spot other varieties of plants growing thanks to the wonder of mother nature.  Seed dispersal, soil seed bank, natural succession and environmental conditions all contribute to the rich tapestry of flora.  So, when playing ‘spot the wildflower’ don’t be surprised if you find something extra.

It's the hard work of our Grounds Team that contributed to Chandler's Ford receiving Runner Up in the Best Open Space category within the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Village of the Year Awards 2024.

Keep an eye on our facebook for videos and pictures throughout the season.  If you would like to share your photos we would love to see them.
