First Responders
Our Community First Responders (CFRs) are a team of volunteers, who support the South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS).
They are dispatched by SCAS and their objective is to attend medical emergencies and perform potential life saving actions prior to the arrival of the ambulance.
The majority of incidents that the group are dispatched to are classified as Category 1 and Category Cat 2, which include Cardiac Arrests, Strokes, Heart Attacks, Anaphylactic shock, Catastrophic bleeds and Diabetic emergencies. The group are given extensive training by SCAS and each CFR has to requalify every six months.
Since the beginning of the COVID pandemic, the added pressures on the Ambulance services have in turn been passed on to our CFRs.
In 2019 our CFRs were on call for 1,247 hours and attended 204 incidents. In 2020 our CFRs were on call for 2,421 hours and attended 437 incidents.
The Parish Council are proud to support the First Responders with a budgeted grant each year to help keep their volunteers' equipment in good condition.
Thanks to them all and it's great to see these volunteers being so well supported in the community they serve so well.
